magnetic pickup
magnetic pickup
My book says that the mag pickup should be set at .5 mm and another book says between .2mm and .3mm. My car is quite sluggish in the top end, which could be the low compression I unfortunantly have, but I have it set at around .24mm. Would setting higher or lower give me better spark and what do you guys find is the optimum setting?

Re: magnetic pickup
Most of the books and published figures I have state .5mm to .6mm for the air gap between the magnetic pickup and the stator wheel.
I believe the .2mm-.3mm specification was for the plex type distributors that did not have vacume advance. Odd because the magnetic pickups are basically the same, the plex pickup has a longer wire though.
I have both types of distributors and have run both on the same engine. The air gap was set at .5mm for both and no issues with either.
