76 Spider Electronic Ignition Conversion
I have a 76 Spider that was having problems running. Seemed as if points needed replacing. Instead, I pulled the dual points from the Marelli distributor and installed a Crane Cams XR700 Electronic Ignition. Still had problems, had the distributor rebuilt/recurved, new coil, dist. cap, rotor, etc.. The car starts and seems to run well for a few minutes, but then can barely muster 2000 rpm. I am thinking this is when the car would normally switch to the second set of points?? I've tried by-passing the relay with no luck. Someone advised that I should not use the green/black wire to the coil. Does anyone know which color wire I could pull off the ignition switch to try running a new wire directly to the positive side of the coil? Or does anybody else have an idea of what else may be wrong and what I should try next? Any help will be appreciated.

Maybe just use one set of points. See if this helps:

if you were only using one wire from the points and not the other, you would lose power completely to the ignition when the relay switched and the engine wouldn't run. Just for yucks (and as a diagnostic tool) try running a hot wire from the alternator battery post to the positive side of the coil and see if the car still acts up as it gets warm. My bet is you have a different problem
