Another Idahoan

Post by MountainMan »

Hi all,
I really wanted one of these when I was young and they were new. I could not afford it so I ended up with a Chevy Vega LOL
I had all but forgotten about it over the years and then my brother found one and showed me a picture. Well, he bought it as you all know, so now I am thinking it will be fun to get one sometime in the next year or so, if I can find the right one for me. Then we can run around together in our kewl spiders. I live in northern Idaho, so he is a 5 hour drive away, but hey, it is a 5 hour mountain road drive :D If anyone knows where Lewiston is, I am not far from there.
Not sure how a spider fits my long time image of MountainMan, but I have not cared what people think of me for a long time, which makes me a grouchy old mountain man. LOL
Again, thanks for letting me in. I will be looking all this info over to decide which year, condition, etc I want. I think Red is the color.

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum. I'm originally from your neighboring state to the west, and I've been in your state lots of times. I envy you your scenery and uncrowded life. To show you the difference in your scenery and mine where I now live here's a larger picture of my avatar. It'll wet your appetite for a red Spider.

Good luck in your search for the right car.

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is so nice up here, but can be so cold. I wondered about driving with the top down in winter LOL.
Love your car. Def. the color I want.

Hello Mike, and Welcome.

There's lots of good info in the archives about model year differences and pre-purchase inspection items. This info would have saved a lot of us a lot of money, had we bothered to look!

If you're successful in finding a Spider, I think you'll find that they are usable in cold weather, even with the top down. The Spider was derived from the sedan, which had a heater core the size of a hardcover book. Sedans were/are used as taxis as far North as Russia, and that heater will really put out. The windows aren't too big, and can be left up with the top down, particularly if you've refurbished the fuzzy channels they ride in. And a buddy of mine sells a black mesh wind deflector, which really keeps the cabin "calm", if you're so inclined.

Good luck with your search. With photos, most of these guys can give you a pretty amazing assessment of a potential buy.
