Would this gear oil be suitable?

Post by crafty »

Hi All,

I have been reading throught the well debated 'transmission oil' threads. Unfortunately a lot of the products that are mentioned aren't available here in Australia. I emailed the tech boys at Penrite (Australia's leading oil production company) and asked about an appropriate oil. Their reply was as follows.
Our recommendation for the gearbox is HPR 30 (SAE 20W-60 engine oil) which is a non-EP API GL-1 mineral oil.

This is, incidentally, the same oil that we recommend for the engine. As an engine oil its rating is SAE 20W-60.

You can see the product on their site at:

What are your thoughts?

Cheers,

Glenn.

I agree with Mark that for the trans it should be OK, but for the engine, I think it is a bit too much weight.

HPR15 might be a better bet.
