Glue for Courtesy light lens

Post by Tango »

I just about had my courtesy light fixed. As someone suggested, the little ball had come out of the switch lever. I subbed a little metal rod made from a screw. Unfortunately, the lens and part of the casing was cracked and the force of putting it back in broke it. Does anyone know the type of plastic or more importantly what type of glue will work on that?

5 minute epoxy and crazy glue (CA) don't do it.

Thanks,\Tim

I went out and broke mine so I could try a couple different glues.
Of course NOT.
Duco cement is one of my favorite all purpose glues, and anything that looks like plastic gets modeling glue. And once the lense is busted, it aint ever gonna be strong enough to take off and on with out busting again. Might try glueing it on, kinda permanent, or heck find a new one.

NOt only that, but, the plastic and glue will heat up when the light comes on again and will soften till it fails again.

New or replace....only way to go.

It goes against my Scots-Canadian ethic, but OK. I'll get a new one. I will have to part with a $20 bill that's been in the family for years, though. Well, at least i've had one apart to see how it works now. :(

is that a Canuck or a USA $20 ?? if you've held onto it that long, it might be worth keeping around longer as an heirloom, or conversation piece. Certainly won't make you rich

check out the cars being parted out in the parts for sale section. those little lamps should sell Scot's cheap.

the problem is using 5 minute epoxy, you should have only used 1 min epoxy and kept the rollover minutes :D
