how hot should the coil get
How hot should the coil get? my coil get almost to hot to touch. is this the norm? may dad said its to hot. we thought it may be a bad relay, but couldn't find one going to the coil. my car is a 1980. any help would be great.

the coils get very hot. It's best to mount an oil-filled coil on a slight angle so the - terminal is on the low side. That is the hottest spot in the coil. By tilting it you ensure oil is around that terminal on the inside
