Hi folks-
I'm having a problem closing the hood, it releases fine, but then doesn't "catch" properly when closing? I don't want to slam it which doesn't seem to help anyway. What we've had to do is, my husband lowers the hood and then pushes the hood down with two hands, while I push or pull the release until it stays down. Two-person job in other words, which is a pain. It takes a few tries to get it to stay closed. I also noticed that the hood seems to be lower slightly than the fenders now, there's a slight difference in the height of the hood when closed, next to the fenders, it not a smooth appearance in other words. Any clues? Thanks

unless you adjust the latch so that it catches higher off the body, you will be looking for a used latch soon.
betcha one or the other (or both) of those nuts have loosened causing the latch to slide down too far on the mounting studs.
Raise the latch higher on the studs, retighten the nuts and giver a gentle try.
From personal experience, excessively slamming the hood closed will eventually lead to latch failure.
All this is said presuming that the latch is properly lubricated and functions (latches and releases) without major force before considering the hood. Also, I am presuming that the latch cable is not bound up, and freely activates the release mechanism. Can you easily trip and release the latch using just a screwdriver and the release cable?

Hmmm, well, Mike, I'll have to look at that. I can pretty much manage what you're talking about I think, as far as raising the latch on the studs and re-tightening the nuts? I'm not sure about the binding of the cable, or what you mean by tripping the latch using a screwdriver and the release cable- do you mean I should pull the release while some one else is pushing the latch with a screwdriver with the hood open obviously? And how would I lubricate the cable, it's shielded isn't it? Thanks for the advice....

Yes, that is what I mean. Operate the latch w/out the hood.....open and close it, so that it locks in place and release it ...all with the hood up.
Doesn't necessarily take two people, but it is more fun that way. I always enjoy my wife's company in my garage when I am Fiat repairing. At least, when I am not doing major things that require cursing.
If the cable is disconnected from the latch, does it move freely? Yes, it is shielded, but moisture can creep inside. Some WD 40 sprayed at the end of the shield on the cable will eventually creep deep into the cable.
