two loose screws

Post by Flyingthere »

Hey guys I need to pick your brain. I am going to replace my valve cover gaskets and have noticed that one of the nuts tends to loosen up after a good run. Any ideas how to keep it from doing that? I did not know if lock tite would be an option.
The second item is the gearshift knob. I need to put a locking nut under it as it vibrates off the shifter after a long drive. I wanted to know if anybody knew the size I might need before I go trying to find a bolt to fit the shifter, then a nut to fit that at the hardware store.

Loose nuts can usually be remedied with a pair of size smaller jockeys, although Loc-tite would be a great alternative.
Ron Lux has one of those locking nuts on his shifter and can tell you what that is.

I'm not at home this week (working in Ventura) so I can't check right now, but if memory serves it is 10mm threads.
Mike offered to adjust the depth of the shaft hole to eliminate the lock nut, but I declined, I like the nut!

Good memory, Ron. 10mm x 1.25 mm pitch.

Pope what would we do without you, thanks for the advise but I think using the lock tite will be a better option. 10 mm 1.25 got it thanks guys!
