Ignition Switch Needs Replacing, Stuck

Post by BartusCompater »

Okay, so my ignition switch needs replacing. I took out the mount screws and unplugged the wiring but I'm 99% sure that the steering wheel lock is hitting, so I can only push the switch out about 1/4". I'm not really sure if I'm doing something wrong, if I'm supposed to pry the lock back, or which way to pry it.

The situation with the switch is that something snapped when I turned a new key in it too hard. The situation has recently gotten worse, and the key will turn 360 degrees in any direction without stopping. Any tips on how to get this thing out without ripping the whole steering column off?

I just figured out what I needed to do! There's a little slot to the right of the ignition switch that you can see in the first photo. There was a little release button behind that switch which I just had to push in with a little pocket knife screwdriver. Once that was depressed the switch slid right out.

Glad you got it out. They can be a bear, especially if you don't have the key set at a certain position.
