my 77 spider used to have a working fuel gauge, now it is pegged at full when on, ive tried a new sender and got the same result, moving the arm through its travel only pulls the gauge down 1/8th. the guage will move a full sweep when unplugged.

unplug the wires from the sender and make sure they don't touch ground. If the gauge is still pegged you either have a short in the wire or a bad gauge
