Post by Leesfer »

I have been experimenting with a few different exhaust options for a long while now but if anyone could help me out and cut my experiementations short and give some insight about how Sany got his spider to sound like this...

Hey Leefer

Oh that is easy just get your Fiat up to about 80 MPH and stick your head out the window or any car for that
matter and hear that wind rush like crazy ! ooooh you mean the sound of the engine
and exhaust huh ?
That is a tough one didnt sound like most exhausts systems around most likely has a resonator and a muffler
didn't sound like a magnaflow or a flowmaster not a turbo muffler either sounds good though !

You could put socks on them if you trim the inside so they don't choke the carbs down. I don't have much room under a flat hood for any air cleaners so mine are pretty much open save for the little screens on my horns....and boy, are they loud!

The sound that I love in that video is when he lets off the gas and it has that loud grumble

It is music to my ears. Sadly I have a FI,(actually its not sad coz it's an 82 and everyone knows 82s are the best :p), so I cant pump air into my carbs but perhaps a cone filter will do a bit of a wonder for my car

I had a K & N on my FI not much louder then stock maybe a bit . The Video sounds more on the Exhaust side
to me .
The Best Air Cleaner sound and performance wise that i ever used was by ITG for Dual Carbies

Image

they have different sizes and heights even a setup that will fit under a fiat 124 hood i purchased
the low profile 1 they had was a long time ago .

Who needs twin carbs? Below is a link to my spider with a 2l, HC pistons, 40/80 intake cam and a Single Weber 36 ADL. Sorry for the film quality its my first video and had to keep slowing down for traffic.

Nice video, Curly! My attempt with socks didn't work out so well:

For the best induction sound, just get rid of the bonnet: 8)

I really like the muffled sound from the turtleback air cleaner, but, it doesn't fit under my flat hood. So, I ended up with these dome filters from Pierce Manifolds. They do a good job of filtering, and for you guys that like noise, they're good for that, too.

Alvon, that picture cracks me up every time I see it! I especially like the pic with the bonnet missing and the sunset!
