idles but won't accelerate

I have an 83 124 spider. I can start it and it seems to run fine but when I give it gas it bogs down and dies or backfires and dies. any help will be appreciated.

I had just replaced the charcoal cannister but not the hose on the bottom. I just pulled the hose off and it won't hold suction. This may be the problem. I will let you know.

Dirty (clogged) fuel injections can also cause this. Also, the air flap in the AFM should move freely, and the large air duct from that to the throttle body needs to be totally free of leaks. FI cars don't work well with air leaks in that large hose.

The TPS nay also be either not working or adjusted wrong. We fixed my friends car yesterday that idled perfectly but would not accelerate, sputter and cough. We checked the PTS and found the built in microswitch was not working. We swapped in a spare i had and voila problem solved. So test the TPS, easy with an Ohm meter and then adjust it per the manual.

I checked the tps and it seems normal, istarted the car and it starts right up but was smoking quite a bit and for some reason the temp wasn't registering. I am going to pull the motor and rebuild the engine and check all the wiring. here is a new problem, when i shut off the motor i put my hand on the intake plenum and it was ice cold I live in southeast fla and the temp in my garage is about 80.

The temp gauge is connected on the top of the head. Let it run for 20 minutes and try it. Mine was bad cold and it was the AFM.
