The manual states to lubricate (Lithium Grease) the input shaft of the Transmission prior to installation to the engine. Obviously the endpoint that sits in the crank shaft pilot bearing needs a little.
But the Manual says lubricate the SHAFT, does not mention anything about lubricating the SPLINES that the clutch disk rides on.
Want to be careful here.... Intuition says that the clutch plate shouldn't ride completely dry on those splines? It has a lot of free play and could stick a little. (Clutch plate is just put on in the pic here for illustration). The Throw Out bearing rides on a fixed sleeve and obviously that needs to have some lubrication, as well as the pins from the yoke that hold the T.O. bearing, and the point that the yoke pivots on)
You folks who have done this before, do you lube the splines as well as the shaft? Probably being way over cautious here, but this is the first time that I/we have done this work to this level of detail, so I want to learn and get it exactly right.
Thanks as always.
Pete

Yes, I've always put a light amount of grease on the splines as well as in the roller bearing thingie in the end of the crankshaft. Not too much grease on the splines of course, lest it end up on the clutch face.
I am envious of your clean bellhousing! I'm hoping this is an "after cleaning" picture.

Yes, after cleaning, came back from a gear box rebuild by Danny.
Thanks for the input, I am very probably overcautious, but that is a good stance the first time through this stuff.
