shifting problem

shifting problem
I was driving along today minding my own business and all of a sudden I noticed I couldn't shift into third gear. I continued trying a few times but no go. I can shift into other gears but when I try to go into third it won't move. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Thanks
