Welcome to the obsession!
2-liter engines started in 1979; the bumpers are wrong for '71 also. Could it be an '81?
the serial number will tell you much about the car with just a little research.

Not a 71, look if there is a plaugue on the drivers side door above the latch. #1 just a little research will tell everything.

The badge on the back does not say Fuel Injection, so I’m guessing you have an early ‘80 with carbs.

But like others have said, the serial number will tell you everything.

well looked at the attatched vin plate.. listed on it as a 128.. well i know it wasn't that found the stamped number in the body above.. all the vin look ups require a 17 digit number.. is there a place to check for sure? i did do some research on that it might be a 1979 due to the number order and that it's a 124 2000 for sure..

A few years back a guy named Bradley Artigue wrote a book called “Maintaining the Italian Roadster.” If I recall correctly the first chapter was about how to correctly identify your car. I’m 99% sure I have that book at home (meaning it is not on loan to anyone at the moment).

As soon as practical I’ll take a look at what it says and report back.

Hi there,
the worldwide spider registry can help!
https://www.fiatspider.de/der-spider/registry
(although we have actually published only a partial list of the complete registry)

The "2000" badge in the back tells us, that you have a 79 spider. Your serial number must begin with 124CS201xxxxx

With the complete serialnumber it is possible, to identify the month of production. But this info is also stamped in on a plastic badge at drivers side door.

So, whats your serialnumber?

Bye, Ralf

You may also want to join mirafiori.com, they have an excellent library for members, and the forum is quite active. I'm in at xweb.com too, they have a front engine-rear drive section.
