Hi,

i just purchased a 85 spider with 56k miles on it. Previous owner put a new timing belt and water pump in it and garaged it back in 1999 then forgot about it. It's my first restoration project since I was a kid helping my father rebuild Cadillac's. Would love some tips from current owners on the best way to get this engine going again. I am thinking oil change and coolant flush before cranking. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, car is a bit of a Frankenstein. Previous owner had a problem with the fuel injection and put in a carburetor instead.

Drain fuel tank, blow out all lines, replace fuel filters. Spider fuel tanks cannot be easily inspected, so pay attention to the fuel condition after you re-fuel. Your tank may need to be restored.
Pour one tablespoon of ATF in each cylinder. Allow to soak for a day or two.
If engine can be turned by hand, now replace timing belt (and tension pulley, if required).
Re-install spark plugs, charge battery, check oil level.
Squirt some fuel into the carb, and turn the key. When/if it runs, then you can perform other maintenance items.

OR

... simply attach jumper cables and let 'er rip. It's your car.

ps Ignore the odometer on these cars. Unless you have documentation throughout its lifetime, there's a fair chance they're not showing actual miles.
