No headlights or radio

Post by Gunsmith »

So I am driving down the road and my headlights and radio go out? My parking lights work when I flip the head light switch to position two but when I flip the switch all the way down for headlights they all go out. My radio does not get power at all. I checked the fuses under the dash but they all look good, as good as those fuses can look any way. Any suggestions?

get some candles? haha, I'd look closely at the fuses. It sounds like a voltage drop. Clean the fuse tips and tighten the prongs in the fuse box

Gunsmith, do both high and low beams not work? That's 4 fuses just for those. I can't imagine that the radio has been spliced into any of those fuses, so that would be five fuses not passing power, not likely. Sounds like a voltage problem as Mark said. Is the radio OK when the lights are off? Check the voltage at the alternator and on the back of the ignition switch. Good luck.

Thanks guys, no high or low beams at all. Radio doesn't come on at all. Fuses appear to be good. I changed the ignition switch out a again for a real one in case that was the problem still with no change. The car runs well but I will check the alternator next but it just does not seem like that is it since nothing dimmed and it all just went out at one time. Like most Fiats or old cars in general some very smart shade tree mechanic may have decided to "fix" the original factory wiring and splice them together, not sure. I will keep hunting. I was hoping this was going to be one of those known "easy" fix issues.
