Hi all,
Hope all of you are well,
I have an issue with my 124 spider. I have finally replaced the ECU and engine started to work fine, however I needed to install a windshield washer to pass the road licence test and after doing so and trying out the washer all worked fine. Unfortunately once I started up the car it ran for a number of seconds and died on me. I removed the wiring connections I had done and tried to start the engine up again, however it just turns over and doesn't fire up. It sounds as though there is no spark what's so ever. My main concern is that I hope it is not the ECU again as it look a number of months to arrive to me .
The washer motor was connected onto a loose 12v wire I found running around in the engine bay, that I traced back and saw it was connected directly onto the + side of the alternator that I assume is connected directly to the battery since it's a constant live wire .after this I installed a bypass switch in the cabin, as didn't want to tamper with the dashboard and I earthed the negative cable to the body.
I am very dissapointed that I may have caused a problem and obviously now again I am lost and have no idea what way forward is best to troubleshoot the issue.
Has anyone of you ever passed through an issue similar to this? Would you know of a way to check and what to check first as I am very concerned and would like to resolve over the weekend.
Thanks you in advance .and wish you all a great weekend.

Re: Electrical issue causing engine not to start
Unless a previous owner added a wire to the alternator output terminal there should not be any hanging around the engine compartment. The alternator output post should have 2 wires on it one goes through the firewall to the fuse box and then to the ignition switch. The other connect to the battery terminal of the starter solenoid. The wire that goes through the firewall is usually black and feeds the "ignition" section of the ignition switch. The brown wire from the Starter solenoids battery terminal feeds the "start" and the "lights" section of the ignition switch.I traced back and saw it was connected directly onto the + side of the alternator
Does the wire you found look like an original Fiat factory wire?? If so and its black it could be the wire needed to feed the ignition section of the ignition switch.

Thanks for your comment. I checked the ohm readings and it is 700 so it must still be on good working order.ORFORD2004 wrote:Magnetic pick-up coil.

I am still very lost in what this could be .

With the ignition switch in the "run" position do you have battery voltage on the pink wire of the coil???
