Hazard/ Brakedown switch

I have a 1980 FI spider and recently replaced the Hazard/ Brake down switch and I noticed that my Hazard switch doesn't not flash when its engaged. The external turn lights work fine and the indicattors light also works, just the switch itself doesn't glow or flash. Is this normal?

Does it have a bulb inside? If so, is it good? Does it illuminate when the lights are on?

If the switch you installed appeared to have been opened or repaired by someone I would think that is the problem. Many of the hazard switches I have taken apart have the light contact bent over so it no longer makes contact with the side of the bulb. It is pretty tricky to assemble the round Hazard switch and get the light contact in the correct position.

It doesn't look like its been opened. And no it doesn't illuminate when on or off and not even when the lights are on.

Looking at the connections on the back of the switch (wires) there there should be a single black/violet wire that connects to terminal 31. This wire is not part of the round connector connecting all the other wires for the switch. It is a single nylon female spade connector that gets installed separate of the main round connector. This wire is the lights ground.

Thanks Again I will check it tonight. I am pretty sure I saw 8 wires in the round connector. Also my hazard switch has a single free spade in the middle of it as well, however I don't see any wires going to it in the wiring diagram.

I'm pretty sure the single terminal in the center of the round terminals is terminal 31 and should be connected to ground. My diagram shows a black/violet wire. I think I have seen a white/black wire connected there on some cars. At any rate that terminal needs to be connected to ground.
