Console Console

I need console consolation. I have a red interior and I want to keep it. The console is...beat up. What have you done with your console short of the "cap" option or the replacement option (which is not an option for a red console). I'm thinking I can recover it with vinyl and good old westwood glue but then there is the trouble of the not only cracked but broken off bits, like some of the edges around the handbrake opening. Anyone get wild, get crazy, with solutions?

Could you repair it with something like Bondo before recovering?

I think bondo, or other materials like that, should work fine, if the whole thing will be covered over again. (I am in the process of filling in cracks on my cash with expanding foam.) But the cracked and missing bits were shaped foam covered with vinyl. Now chunks are missing. I'm not sure if I should cut it slightly down, removing the "hump" that is/was there, or what. I can't see how I would fabricate, shape, a new "hump". (This is the hump that is at the back of the e-brake handle when the handle is up.)

Wow, yes, I am inspired! That is bondo? Sculpted bondo? Amazing. And the covering, how did you do that? Glued on vinyl? Fantastic.

Yes bondo multi layers, then sculped and filed, finished with sandpaper for smooth surface Takes some time! be patient :D
Vinyl attached with brushed contact glue ( don't use the aerosol type, weeps too much with vinyl) don't over stretch it also.

Top surface is aluminum plate, painted blue with aluminum mesh glued on with two part clear epoxy. of course you can do wood or anything else.

have fun!
