1608 with 95amp alternator issue corrected

Post by georgeramos »

So Ive been having issues with the 95 upgrade whiich Ive mentioned in earlier posts.

Mostly belt squeal/burn.

Had 2 different alternators tested (one in car) and both work fine.

Then came across a Mira post where my friend and local Fiat enthusiast Mike Richmond created a longer upper mount (with parts from a go kart) to allow the alternator to pivot further away therefore lengthening the belt allowing more of it to contact the pulley.

He had perfect results.

As I was reading the mira post my car was still at the shop and they called me. I mentioned Mikes results to him and he said they d had a similar experience some years back and it turned out the pulley was slightly different that its counterparts. I had already asked him to measure my pulley widths and he said the alternator pulley was a tiny bit wider. I asked him to replace it on the alternator out of the car and i swapped them out and so far have had perfect results.

I will update if this changes but for anyone having belt squeal issues with AR"s (maybe others sell tje exact same one) 95 amp alternator there are options to eliminate the issue.
