does anybody know how to wire up a wiper motor out of a Punto in a 1980 Spider?
I have been told that it is possible but the wiring is quite different
I have an image of the Punto and Spider motors here: https://www.dutchgeordie.nl/s/D2csGIUp3CNiG6u

Re: Punto wiper motor
I don't think we have the Punto in the USA so I googled a wire diagram. Your photos do suggest the motors might have similar physical footprints.
This is my best guess so that certainly does not make it correct you will have to try it out and see what happens.
I am pretty sure of the following.
Punto Pin Number - 1980 wire color
1 - Light Blue Slow speed
5 - gray Fast speed Note I could have 1&5 reversed but pretty sure they are power to the motor.
2 - Black Ground
3 - gray black Park
4 - light blue/white Delay Note I am not sure of pins 3 or 4 either.
Hopefully you will be able to check a Punto wiper motor from the above information and and correct my guess as necessary. Let us know what you find
If anyone else has info please help us out.

Re: Punto wiper motor
punto motor has ECU on it that controls speed. not sure how that would work with 124 wiring

Re: Punto wiper motor
the physical footprint is identical so no problem there
the ECU may be the deal breaker
I'll have a bash at the weekend and see what happens

Re: Punto wiper motor
it seemed the footprint was the same but motor housing is straight where as the Spider motor has an angle to it so unfortunately it doesn't fit.

Re: Punto wiper motor
I opened up the old motor, cleaned the electrical contacts with contact cleaner, adjusted the interval switch so it wasn't too tight, added some lithium grease and put it all back together. Result ! Don't need a new motor now

Re: Punto wiper motor
There are all sorts of better wiper motors that will bolt up to the linkage. One of the most common is the Bosch from a VW/Audi.dutchgeordie wrote:I opened up the old motor, cleaned the electrical contacts with contact cleaner, adjusted the interval switch so it wasn't too tight, added some lithium grease and put it all back together. Some of the bracket needs to be trimmed off but otherwise it bolts right up.
Only modification to getting the park function to work is clipping this ground connector and solder a new wire to it to turn it into a 6 wire motor.
I've got a diagram of how to wire this motor to the car's wiring harness.
I later add a 12 to 18 volt step up converter for more power:
Here's the motor in action with 18 volts:

If you want more information I can elaborate on it. If you search under my user ID, you may find where I posted the function of each wire and where it goes onto the Bosch motor and how to wire up the 18 volt step up converter.
