When in transit, my fuel gauge bounces up and down like a yo-yo. Does this mean I need a new tank sending unit?
Cheers,
Glenn.

That would be my guess.
You can try removing it and checking the mechanical portion of the sender unit. I replaced mine recently. The tank would read fine from 3/4 to full but once it was below 3/4 it would read empty.
I do recall for a while it did read like a yoyo too.

I replaced my fuel sending unit with a brand new one and alas . . it didn't fix my problem . . the gauge is still bouncing when driving. Is this normal?
Is the next step to replace the gauge itself?

Even brand new senders (at least the one that I got) don't have any dampening mechanism, so the gauge needle is gonna swing. They're pretty fragile, too, and I'd think that all this movement would affect their lifetime. Somebody out there probably knows when manufacturers began slowing down the float movement on popular cars. Doesn't bother me, though; in my state of tune, it's the only needle I can occasionally peg!

They are in my car, but, you know, those tanks are pretty small. So the travel on the sender isn't very great, so without damping, there's going to be sloshing in the big well where the sender resides (if you're driving 'er right!).
Re: Fuel Gauge is a bouncin!
i get bouncin' between 3/4 and 1/4, especially with jack-rabbit starts and aggressive cornering.
no bouncin' above 3/4 tank. new last year sending unit.

you know the old adage; if the fuel gauge is rockin' don't come knockin'
