Speedometer install help

I took apart my dash to fix another issue, part of what i did was unscrew the speedo cable from the speedometer.

When i was done i reinstalled the speedo cable and screwed it down well,

I took it for a test drive and the odometer works but the speedometer does not ?? all was working before.

dont the odometer and speedometer use the same cable ? how does one work and not the other ??

I tried unscrewing and reinstalling the cable but no change - odo works, speed o does not.

Please help
