a great day of wrenching
a great day of wrenching
So, I promised to char broil some dead cow, and what do you know? guys from Chicago, Indianapolis and Detroit show up at my door! Imagine that...
Show them a Spider engine that is half torn apart, and they spend the day tripping all over themselves to tear it the rest of the way apart. Then, because i promised food, they put it all back together again.
And the most amazing thing happened. Guibo Luigi, the infamous Italian mechanic showed up to give us a few pointers. Amazingly, Guibo Luigi had time to share a smoke and a joke while he demonstrated the proper wrenching techniques involved with a head swap on a Spider engine.
two thousand thanks and a single hat tip to each of the following:
Lee, the voice of CHI-FLU a.k.a. mister enthusiasm
Dave, the ace in my book and all around great guy
Tony, was that scratch there before? mister optimist
and especially, to Lexi, our gorgeous Tool Girl, and future FLUster.

Mike, you gotta have some kind of pull to get Guibo to work on a Saturday! But I noticed you're not doing your part to help keep Harbor Freight in business, Craftsman tools indeed.
Looks like it was a good day.

Re: a great day of wrenching
i actually did very little wrenching myself. tossed tools to the guys, ran parts, and of course, charred cow.
and yes, the still incomplete, but much talked about cam covers were pressed into service.

Re: a great day of wrenching
What sort of parent would allow their child to hang out with the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? Or is that the Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight?
Re: a great day of wrenching
Two questions posed. Two answers given:
1. The sweet little thing in my arms is my grand daughter. Her mother loves that her dad spends time with the baby.
2. Marx Brothers came in fours, if you count both Shemp and Curly...there were four, not Three Stooges. No-Curly Joe does not count. These guys came from three, not four directions to my house, so they are definitely not the Four Horsement of the Apocalypse. Based on the good natured humor that flowed all day, i would say we were MUCH closer to the Gang that Couldn't Shoot Straight.

Thanks. We're not done yet. I just could not wait to get some pictures out. the timing belt cover and the radiator fan will get their own set of refurbishments this coming week. additionally, i need to (once again) fabricate up a different dipstick and bracket combination.
Anyone know how far one can of crackle paint will go...??

Re: a great day of wrenching
Ya know Mike, I just flew back in town from two weeks in Virginia. Opened up the garage and still have 12 1/2 feet of Spider sitting sideways on the rotissorie. Worked on her for a few hours today. Scrapping and heating undercoating off and sandblasting. Getting down to pure metal. This is a frame-up with some significant body changes. Cant wait to drive out your way in the Spider.
