Fuel Injection Hose

Hi, first time poster so sorry if I have put this in the wrong section. I've just purchased my 1981 2000i spider from a nice chap in Wales, He was kind enough to deliver to me me in the South East, only problem is that on arrival the car decided to spill its petrol all over the drive hence one split fuel injection hose!! I'm going to replace this but I have two questions.

1. What mm pipe do I need? I keep seeing different answers 7mm or 8mm?
2. Any good tips on getting the pipe lubricated enough to slide on?

Hope to be a regular on here as I love the cars and am hoping to get mine to a very good example.

Hi there,
I just replaced the gas tank in my 81 and all the hoses. I used 5/16 (8mm) for everything and it worked great.

You can use 7.5mm or 8mm. Most people fit clamps to the hoses, as it is quite difficult to press new hoses in the original 'hat' type washers.
I would replace all the high pressure hoses both in the engine compartment and by the fuel pump/filter.

I found applying a little light grease to the end barb and heating the new hose with a hot air gun make pushing the new hose fully into the original cup mush easier. I think it might be an over kill but I install a stainless steel pinch clamp on all the new connections. The photo below shows the pinch clamp.
