engine mount replacement procedure

Post by JohnD »

Hi,

I am in the middle of some upgrades, updated head w 40/80 cams and performance header. I had to jack up the motor to install the header and while jacked up I figured in would replace the motor mounts. Is there a procedure for this? I am trying to remove the mounts and going through the A-frame seems like a horror and reinstalling seems equally horrifying. Any guidance/hints for removal and install?

Thanks so much

removing the motor mounts isnt a big deal. The mount nuts in the crossmember are accessible though a hole in the bottom of the crossmember. Use a 17mm socket with an extension and you are good to go. You may have to search a little to find it. worthwhile to take a flash light and look in the hole to see the location. You will need both the upper and lower nuts loose to clear the crossmember when jacking up the engine.

Mounts are in thanks so much. As for lowering the engine back down on the mounts, any suggestions for lowering the engine back down on the mounts. doesn't seem like the brackets will line up with mounts easily. Am I incorrect? Any hints before I drop the motor?

Thanks,

John

Leave the top nut loose on the motor mounts, so you can move them around. Take some wrestling to get the studs in the hole.

My mounts look pretty oil contaminated and barreled out, so I picked up some new ones. The exhaust side looks really easy, but the intake side looks pretty hellish. I guess FIAT worried about component failure on the hot side, so they decided to stuff everything they possibly could on the cool side of the engine. Any advice on the minimum amount of stuff to be removed to get to the top nut? Hoping to avoid removing the intake manifold.
