Tie rod install question

Post by njoconnor »

Decided to install all new tie rods/center link (see below). When installing the tie rods, is the standard (ie, generally assumed as correct by alignment shops) method to install so the adjusting tube rotates forward when increasing toe-in? I figured out, and marked with duct tape, the rotation direction for lengthening, and hope to re-install everything this weekend.

I originally planned to just replace the boots. But, in a wonderful moment of brain fade last Tues, I managed to use the HF ball joint separator *upside down*, and nicely crushed the outboard driver's side tie rod ball joint. I considered just replacing the tie rod ends on that particular side, but a look at the rest of the assembly, and the relatively low cost of going all new, convinced me to go with the new parts. A/R, as usual, had the parts to me in a couple of days (nice stuff!).

Thanks.
