Vintage Racing

I suppose this is a restoration of sorts. After several years of 124 ownership I have decided to convert it into a vintage racer. I have a 1975 with a 2l transplanted. This is going to be done on the cheap (as cheap as racing can be) so I will mostly be focusing reliability and safety. I am going to be adding a cage, racing seat and belts, kill switch, wheels and tires, racing pads and fluid, fuel cell, and an accusump. However I also need a transmission rebuild and would like to upgrade it while i am in there. Does anyone know where I can get a stronger gear set and clutch? I don't want to go all the way to a dog box ($$$). Ill add pictures soon!

No such thing AFAIK. Convert to a 131 gearbox.

How does the transmission itself tend to hold up to race conditions?

the 131 box is great for most race application with a normal 2L, the older 124 colotti box does have limitations, especially where torque is increased.

The next weak point may be your differential if it has not been well maintained.

I say use what you got till it breaks and in the meantime see if you can get your hands on a 131 box and maybe an LSD or torque bias diff (if you still have the early style of diff)

We have heaps of people in Oz using the standard stuff and as long as it well respected when driven (even driven hard but no massive rev and "dump the clutch" stunts) it will last a while

We have a guy with a fairly standard BC coupe (he is a talented driver) that is a 1608 and does lap times of a 2L here is a thread on the T124 forum http://www.turbo124.com/forum/viewtopic ... ilit=danny

This is exactly what I intend to do. Unfortunately, I already have some transmission issues that need to be addressed and figured I'd upgrade while its out. I may just do a normal rebuild with a race clutch and shop around for a 131 gearbox in the meantime.
