Reborn Fiat owner in Utah

Post by ROOK1 »

I decided to get a Fiat again. Just picked up a 1972 Spider in need of some love. Body is solid, floors seem to be solid, engine turns over, interior is shot, but it comes with Panasport Ultralights all for 500.00. If there are any people from Utah here, let me know if there is a place to get parts locally.

Hello, and welome to the forum ROOK1. So what's the story behind getting a fiat again?
Post some pictures of your car so we can all remember what it looked like before you got the work started on it.

The story behind being a Fiat owner again is.....My first car way way back was a 1976 Fiat X19. I drove that car until the engine blew up. I then discovered the Mustang and had several of those through the years. I am now entering my midlife crisis and instead of getting a girlfriend I thought I would get a project car. I have always wanted a small European car like an MG, Triumph or Fiat. I decided to go with the Fiat since I had one once before and it was there for sale for a price I could afford.
I haven't actually brought it home yet as I am trying to locate a trailer. As soon as I do I will post up some detailed pics, for now here are a couple of pictures from the ad.

70 degrees? Utah, in the United States? That Utah? Dang, I thought you guys would still have 2-3 feet of snow.
Great looking car. It looks like a good starting point, so good luck and have fun with it.

only 2 wives? and 1 Fiat? You must be new to all of this! :D
Where abouts in Utah? I'm thinking SLC if you're looking at Wasatch weather.
That looks like a great buy, the wheels alone are worth more than that.
Welcome to the forum, and good luck with sharing the car!

Actually it is only one wife and one Fiat, for now. I am sure I can't afford more than one of each.

I am actually 30 miles north of SLC in South Weber.

I'm not aware of any suppliers in your area, but there are some other forum members from Utah. I'll be coming through your town enroute to Yellowstone in late Sept

Welcome, Rook1. I am glad to see you made the trip. I told you this was a great site, right?

And, i guessed right on the car too. that investment has paid off just in the wheels, they look nice... real nice. I am curious to see how well it runs and if the tranny slips through the gears well.

do get impatient, take your time. you can have a lotta fun with that little bee of a car.

Thank you for your guidance, this seems to be a great site. I too hope everything is fine with the mechanicals. I see several project Spiders come for sale now and then. If I need to I will pick one up for parts.

Patience is something I lack from time to time, but I always want things to be done right, so I am confident it will turn out ok.

Well I got her home but it was a fight. Does anyone know if there is a way to get a key by VIN#?
So Cal Mark

Re: Reborn Fiat owner in Utah

the vin doesn't include any key codes. If you're missing the ign key, the easiest method is to remove the steering column and take it to a competent locksmith. Removing the ign lock cyl without a key is a chore and results in a ruined ign switch

if you have one key and are concerned about key blanks... CALL one of our vendors and they will walk you thru the steps of ordering proper key blanks. Easier than guessing what blanks you need. vick's did this for me.
