1982 auto trans question.

Hey guys noob here.

So I've got an 82 pinin that came factory with an automatic. From what I've looked up online and on the site, the stock auto trans in our fiats where the gm/ holden turbo hydromatic 180 ( weird they put a gm trans in an Italian car) . I've noticed that they've put that trans in everything from our fiats to opels, chevette's, and the Suzuki sidekick and geo tracker up to 1998.

Seeing as how I've only seen one other fiat in my area ( a 5spd ) id like to keep my car stock, with the auto. I feel that keeping the car stock it will be worth more as a classic ( I can always mod another car )

Anyways on to my question for the knowledgeable people here. Will a th180 from any of the numerous cars they were equipped in work as a replacment in my car? I'm mainly looking at using a geo tracker trans as they are the most available in my area. And cheap to boot.

Any help / sugestions are greatly welcomed
Thanks in advance

if you want a 5 speed change it, everything is bolt on, there is no vin correlation as to weather your car came with a 5 speed or automatic. no one will ever be able to tell the car was an automatic originally

@ seabeelt, there is no trans at the moment. Otherwise the car is complete.

@ beek, as much as id love to have a 5spd, money at the moment is tight and its more economical to keep the factory auto. But I do have future plans for this winter. I have a car spotted out for a complete drivetrain swap. A 1986 Nissan 300zx. It has a 3 liter alum v6 and 5spd.

I know not true to the cars roots, but for 300 for the entire car, id have every part to do the swap and not much more weight in the front. So the handling wouldn't change much

Tbh using the Nissan for parts is a last resort. Is like to keep the car original, but all car guys know how hard that is :P

i cant say anything for keeping it original, i am putting a 6g72 (3000gt) engine in my scorpion. one day many many years from now it will be complete. the engine is ready, working on mounting now. the only requirement i have is to make what i do bolt in and reversible so in the future a original engine can be refitted if the value skyrockets , hehe

Sounds like your going to have a monster. Lol. If time and money allowed id Deff go for the 3 liter swap from the Nissan. But right now me and my wife only have a van and my motorcycle, so getting the 2000 running ASAP is a good thing. You gonna post build picks on yours beek? Id like to see how that 3000gt motor fits
. Correct me if I'm wrong but if memory serves isn't the 3000gt motor a transverse motor? I've had my eye on a few 3000gt vr4s over the years.
