I have been a member for a couple weeks now and i can say without a doubt that this site has more info in it than the hanes book does. last week i went up to see relatives and i told them i have recently bought (free) a 75 124 spider and the brought up the whole F.I.A.T phrase thing and I didnt like that too much because other than the wiring i have no problem with the car. my car right now it's a rainbow of primers and original paint the doors, hood, and trunk cover are a deep red and the body is white while the enginbay is a new cheery red and so is the trunk. so far with the help of some of you it runs well. and will be painted soon.

welcome. I know how you feel about the comments about F.I.A.T. I had that in a gas station recently with some idiot. I told him I'd never heard it, and how clever he must be to think of something like that all by himself. He wandered off without saying anything else :x

Trust me, even in the cosmetic shape it's in you'll get many more compiments on your car than disparagement. Once you get it painted and shiny, people are all over you about your great car. Maybe except the jealous ones.
Welcome to ya, a couple weeks late.

the one i despise the most are the comments like...

"I used to own an MG just like that"

to which i reply... NOT POSSIBLE

usually sends them into a tailspin...calling them a liar without using the word.

Welcome to the forum! My favorite answer when someone says "do you know what FIAT stands for" is "First In A Turn?"
I did have the opportunity to have a chat with an MGB owner. I came up to him and said "Love your Fiat!" He started to explain what the car was and I told him it was a joke. Now we talk every time we see each other.

On the dolly driving home; bumpers hanging off ... top in shreds ...

"How much you paid for that thing, whatever it is?"
"Eleven hundred bucks"
"Wow, that's a lot!"
"Yeah, what do you think that (pointing to his Camry) wil be worth in thirty-five years?"
