Brake Questions

Post by scgstuff »

Well, thought I was going to replace my son's brake fluid today......but it is an old Fiat.....so we got work to do.

The front left caliper looked OK. The front right, the bleeder bolt had been broken. The right rear, 2 small cracks in the brake line and the back right.....looked like Freddy Kruger got a hold of it. So, decided to take everything off and replace whatever needed to be replaced. The results.....

Front left.....pads were about 1/2 worn. O ring on the caliper was pushed out and not in good condition...

Front right.....pads looked brand new. Never been touched. The bleeder screw was broken off....

Back left....brake line from the metal line to the caliper had two small cuts in it. Pads about 1/2 gone.

Back right....brake line shot. Breaks all over it. Pads worn down a lot.

So, I tried to take everything apart to start replacing stuff. I can not figure out how to get the brake line off from the steel brake lines in the rear to the braided lines. Here is a picture of what I am trying to get off. Seems like it should be simple, but I don't want to mess anything up....

And here is why I am trying to get it off.....

in the top picture you have a rectangular piece with a small hole in it. This is actually the middle of a U-shaped piece. this is what holds the hose to the bracket. Put a large flat screwdriver under the little hole and pry up. keep prying until you remove the piece. once that is out, you can remove the hose from the bracket.
