73 won't start

Post by 73WAspider »

here's my story

Car started and ran but leaked oil. Replaced cam housing seals and the gaskets. Got all the the cam shaft pulley holes lined up with the engine at TDC. Car has spark. Distributor is all set as it should be. Fuel is getting to the carb. Car will turn over forever but just will not start. Help.

with all of the cam sprockets lined up, the distributor rotor should point to #4

I know i have spark and i have the metal end of the rotor pointing at the #4 post on the distributor cap. I see fuel getting into the carb. The car will turn over fine but just wont start. Every now and then there will be a litte "backfire" out of the carb when turning the car over after pumping the gas a few times. I must be missing something. I am pretty sure i have fuel and spark. I dunno?

As Marked said, all the crank marks and cam holes line up... AND the rotor is at #4 then you should be close to spark at the right time. If you can have someone crank while you move the dist just a tad to see if the engine catches. Sometimes as you put the dist. back , it might rotate causing the rotor to move away from #4.
