what is head work?
Re: what is head work?
Depends on what you want to do. It could be anything from just new valve guides to a full blown port and polish ,ccing the chambers ,bigger intake and exhaust valves ,the skies the limit. It all depends on what you want to do and how much money you have to do it with.
Re: what is head work?
The head work Brad mentions helps by allowing the engine to breathe easier. Larger valves= more flow. Porting is removing extra/unnecessary material from the inside passages of the head, where the exhaust and fuel mixtures flow, again enlarging the travel paths. Polishing is literally polishing/smoothing the flow passages to speed air flow through the head and decrease "turbulence" of the fuel and exhaust gases as they flow in/out of the engine.
Our Twin Cam engines were designed to be free revving. In order to meet EPA standards, Fiat kind of strangled the engines, restricting their intake/exhaust abilities. Allow your engine to breathe easier, and you will notice performance gains.

Re: what is head work?
That would be a good topic for that show "How it's made".
Just chatting with SoCalMark re:Cams/Head...seems like a good next step.
Sure I want to know how they do it...BUT I really want to feel the insane
pull/torque at 4000r's with new Cams and Head...yikes.
