Yeup, no issues. I've done it...a couple of times. A slight increase in compression and if you have done it soon after driving the car with the stock head, you might notice a very slight gain in zip. Car seemed to pull a bit better say at 3000 rpm and 4th gear and you add gas without downshifting.
Check all the valve clearances before installing just to make sure they are at spec.
FWIW I used one of those black and decker shop-mates and the head sits on there just right and blocked/snug and when you rotate the cams the valves don't hit anything.

Thank you Narfire, good to know because I bought a redone 1.8 head without checking first.
I am planing on high compression pistons in a 2.0 block and.... more to that later.
I will start a new post on that soon.

Be careful with the combination of a 1.8 head and high compression pistons. The combination of domed pistons and smaller chamber can create a compression ratio that is too high. Measure the volumes to see where you will end up. Measure twice, build once. :)

I don't know much about it but I was afraid that could be the case. I think I will need a lot of help with the project.
Just the head probably does not give me enough compression but it could save me money I guess.
I have to sort out what my goal is and what I can afford. Starting with a new thread tomorrow.

I have the flat topped IAP 8.9 pistons in mine.... no issue there but As you mentioned the high domed pistons could create issues without a good head gasket.
