So I'm trying to put the new belt on ('75 spider) but need about another 1/8" to get it to slip over the new tensioner.
I know the new belt and tensioner are correct.
My question is, does the adjusting bracket that the tensioner fits on have a mechanical stop that prevents me from moving it beyond a certain point?
I've checked and triple checked that the belt is properly positioned on all the pulleys.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

Never mind, brute force to move tensioner.

Re: timing belt
I was having the same difficulty on my 72 spider. I could not apply enough force to the tensioner to give me sufficient slack. I solved it by popping the spring out of the adjusting plate. That allowed me to get the belt on - still a bit of a fight while keeping everything aligned I have to say. Then get the spring back into place with a screwdriver blade to guide and another to push, worked pretty well. I could post a pic or two if anyone is interested.jlw35 wrote:So I'm trying to put the new belt on ('75 spider) but need about another 1/8" to get it to slip over the new tensioner.

Re: timing belt
I used an old drum brake tool that has a hook to get enough leverage.

Re: timing belt
That's a good idea about the brake drum tool, I'll keep it in mind for next time.
Thank you.
