1980 F.I. Popping on deceleration

Post by spiderdave »

My 1980 2 l has lost it's top end power. When running up it sometimes has slight hesitations. When slowing down it makes a popping sound from the tail pipe. It is timed to 10 degrees. The distributor has a good cap and rotor and the vacuum advance seem to work fine. The coil is new. The fuel filter is new. Same with the plugs and wires. New injectors and cold start injector. New lambada sensor, coolant sensor, fuel pressure regulator and I have replaced the double relay switch. I have cleaned the gas tank and replaced all the fuel lines. It seems to start up fine and it does not "run on" after it has been shut off. I only use premium gas. The catalytic converter is in good shape as well as the resonator. I have been reading abut sticky A.F.M flaps in this car so that is my next direction. I have sprayed around the intake and hoses with intake cleaner hoping to find an air leak with no luck. Any other suggestions would be a great help.
Thanks, Spiderdave

THe popping and lack of power are likely two diff issues. Popping in exhause on decell is because some unburned fuel end up in pipe, then any air that gets in there thru a leak, POP. SO usually exhaust leaks contribute to this.
Lack of top end often fuel related, the way to check it properly is T fuel gauge into line, then tape gauge to windshield wiper go for drive.
