Intake manifold for a 79

Post by SolarImages »

So i think i have this right but want to make sure before i spend the money..

1. I have stripped all the smog from the engine compartment as well as the catalytic converter from the exhaust system
2. I have purchased a WEBER 34 ADF

Now i would like to change the intake manifold from the 79 to a non smoke type ..

So this is the question which one will fit ? I have read that only 75 thru 78 will fit. I have since read, what leads me to believe a 74 will also fit ? please let me know thank you all

yes it will fit. you will need to block off or totally remove the egr system, the passage thru the head just needs to be blocked on the outside or left open on both sides, if you are using an aftermarket exhaust you will be fine

A 74 intake manifold will not have the water nipple for the choke. no big deal as you can always. tap the heater hose coming out of the head.

Thank you for the information! So with that being said is it safe to assume that only 74 thru 78 will fit on the 79? sorry just trying to make sure i am very clear on this as i am having trouble finding a manifold in Arizona and have to have one shipped in.

They will all fit/interchange, but you want the 1974-78 manifold for its open plenum design which gives much better flow.

So i installed a dual plane 74 manifold, found a plug from Napa for the exhaust manifold and now she purrs and so far the first run, "100 miles" it looks like 31 miles to the gallon, taking it easy on her, very happy.. thank all
