Fuel Injection Charcoal Canister Question RESOLVED

Post by 4uall »

I noticed while browsing online etc that these all have the cap on them yet mine does not. When I cap mine off the engine will bog down then stall. There has never been any gas smell since I have owned her (2yrs in Sept) :? So my question is does this need to be capped?

designed that way but I had one that was without the cap and it ran fine. I do have a canister with cap if you need one $10.00 plus shipping. Or you can get a new one on ebay. $22.00 plus shipping was the last price I saw

I've experimented with removing and replacing that cap, as far as I can tell on my car (82 FI) it makes no discernible difference in the engines running? It doesn't appear that the cap was ever intended to make an airtight seal or anything (it just loosely clips on)... Maybe my canister is clogged up or not working or something though.

I think it should be a vent and not a sealed cap.

There should be a screen in the opening to keep mung out. Make sure it is not too badly gunked up.
