1800 head
1800 head
Topic I can read a lot about. What I understand is that kind of heads boost the CR. Does it really matters since my 2.0 head will be modified for bigger valves and should be resurfaced too. Adding new pistons should help too. If I do these jobs, does it matters I'm using a 1800 or a 2.0 head?

Re: 1800 head
I run a 2L with an 1800 head. stock valves and the 4mm domes. This was my first stab at it. I have a bit of a detonation problem. it realy runs strong with my dual IDF's If I were to do it again I would stick with 2L head. My buddy Kent had a wee bit shaved off his pistons to help with the detonation issue.
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!

Re: 1800 head
I've had both on my 2L FI. the FI head is more "massaged" than the massaged 1800 head. To be honest, I really can't tell if there is a difference. I suppose if I put it on a dyno, one would have a better idea, but seat of the pants... I dunno.
I have the 84.4 IAP pistons .

Re: 1800 head
the efi lancia head is the best casting sent to the states. the 2.0 head has some reshaping of the combustion chamber over the earlyer versions, it does unshroud the intake valve a bit, it is slightly larger in cc. 4mm domes on a 2.0 with a 1.8 or 2.0 head should not cause detonation unless you are running poor gas, too much timing or too little fuel. ive run 9.8-1 pistons (8mm dome) in a 2.0 with a 1800 head on the street with no problems with 32 deg of advance on premium fuel

Re: 1800 head
If you're already talking about detonation, then it's now a sure thing I won't go for a 1800. Especially when I'm thinking about a turbo. I just saw a 1800 on eBay at 110$ and was wondering if I should get it now for my future updates. It seems it will not.

I think this is a mistype or misunderstanding - pistons with 8mm tall domes give you a lot more than 9.8:1 CR in a 1800 or 2000. It's the 4mm dome pistons that yield about 9.8.
There used to be 2mm domes ~10 years ago, these were sold as 8.9:1. When I installed these I calculated the actual CR and they were fairly close.
