See it there http://krissnow.zenfolio.com/p871661738/ My tricked out old toy- now need a new one
I'm Zamy a 23 year Air Force military member stationed at the AF Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. I just got rid of my toy a 1971 tricked out Datsun 510 with an SR20 DET pushing 326 RWHP and if you know Datsun 510, that's extremely fast since they came with a 70 HP motor. The car had well over 60K in it, but paid only $28.5K for it. Back in 1985 I purchased a red 1978 Fiat Spyder for my ex-wife and fell in love with the car. Being in snow country is not the ideal place to own one, but I'm thinking about purchasing one again. I just started doing some research on spyders. Learning from the past, instead of spending tons of money building a car, I like to buy my hot rods completely done, very clean with great improvements from factory. I need to educate myself on what's the craziest, most powerful power plant there is out there stuffed in a Fiat Spyder with superb reliability. Also where to look and what price someone should pay for cars with different improvements. If any of you can help, please send me an e-mail at spengerz@msn.com advice/pictures highly welcome.
Thanks a bunch

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully you'll hear from the fella with the V8 Fiat (can't remember his name) and there's also Rob's Spider with the V6 conversion. You've got the right mindset. It's far cheaper to buy one already done than to do it yourself. Good luck with your quest!

There is a car ,that I believe is in Colorado that the owner has aLT-1 Vette motor! I used to have a link to his pix .but I cant find them.Try some searches using 'lt-1 Fiat' or similar. It is a really well done car. There is a FLU member here in Ga. that has a 5.0 Ford in it.He has not worked out the diff/axles.He has twisted his Italian axles into rottini (curly pasta). If I remember right the LT-1 has a narrowed 9'' powering thru a 700r auto trans. Good Luck Craig

Personaly, I would stay away from any 6 or 8 cyl coversions. I once test drove a spider with a chevy 4.3 v6 and it was the worst driving spider i've ever driven. No handeling what so ever. I had come to a crawl when comming to a corner. It would bottom out on any dips in the road(the motor was way too heavy for the spider chasis to handle). I can just imagine that an 8 cyl would be even worse. Spiders aren't about going fast in a straight, they're all about how fast you can fling them around the turns.
My dream motors would be a 16v turbo motor from a Lancia Integrale(uses same block as 2l spiders) or the motor and trans from a Honda S2000.
