I drained the 5 speed of it oil, and I seen that the PO flared the refill insert, so I just refilled thru the oil level hole till it cam out. So I should be ok, right
I figured the hole would be your overflow when you fill it from the top so it would be no differnce, or am I wrong
I put in gl1 oil
I assume the rear pumpkin will take the same
Please correct me if I am wrong . I do tend to be wrong

Re: Transmission refill
Fiat218 - Don't use GL-1 in the differential. Use readily available 80/90 gear oil from Valvoline, NAPA, etc. Be sure to raise the front of the car as high as possible so you can get it all in.

Re: Transmission refill
I know that there 2 plugs, as I mention the actual refill pug has been flared out, the Allen wrench will not happen, so I removed the over fill plug and filled it
Now why is the gl1 bad?

Re: Transmission refill
I don't know whether GL-1 is "bad", but it's not required. I use Pennzoil Synchromesh at $15 per litre in the tranny and 80/90 gear oil at $6 per litre in the diff. 'Nuff said.

Re: Transmission refill
The rear axle has a hypoid gear set which means that there is a lot of sliding contact between the gear teeth. This type of gear set requires a gear oil with "extreme pressure" or EP additives in order to not wear out quickly. Look for a gear lube that shows GL-5 on its label. The most commonly available oil for this in the parts stores is 80W90 and I recommend that instead of looking for the original single viscosity 90-weight variety.
If you have already put GL-1 in the rear axle, change it right away - you will damage it.
