Valve / Cam clearances

Post by kustom »

I just checked the clearances on my cams, and every valve measures out to .012 on both intake and exhaust. I can only assume that the PO set it this way intentionally, as every valve measures the same. I started measuring because of what I thought was some valve ticking noise from excessive gap on the valves. Maybe I have a small exhaust leak. I know .012 is too tight, but what issues will arise if I leave it this way? Thanks in advance!

you'll get more lift and longer duration with that clearance. Setting the clearances like that will give you an indication of whether or not a performance cam will work well in your engine

It runs great the way it is... I just wasn't sure if I was damaging anything, or prematurely wearing my cam. I guess I'll leave things as they are.
