Help with parts ID, with Pics!

Post by layinlow »

So I just got this sweet 78 and it has some history, I have never had a Fiat and would like some help figuring out what the previous owner did. There is all sorts up unhooked hoses and wires everywhere, the car runs and I've put 100 miles on it, but it has some weird issues every once in a while. I have circled some items in the pics, any help identifying what it is and if I should hook it up or scrap it would be great. And anything else you see that I should be aware of, please let me know. Thanks for all the great help his far!

Pic 1: Temp gauge sensors. Ones is for the gauge, the otheris an overheat switch that sends the needle in the red if the temp is over ~225F or so

Pic 2: Air injection valve. For emissions, you can throw it away.

Pic 3: Left, charcoal canister for evaporative emissions. Right one of the emissions switches. Throw it away.

Pic 4: Too dark, but it looks like the pasenger side of the outlet is blocked off?? Originally there was an external thermostath that had 3 hose: one from this 'T' in the front of the head, one from the waterpump, and one form the
lower radiator outlet. Possibly someone converted it to an in-head thermostat.

before you throw away the emission equipment, there is a need for it in Calif. 76 and newer cars still have to undergo emission testing and the equipment has to be installed to pass the visual test

I think vandor covered it nicely...

Another thing to note: Looks like the PO also converted to electronic ignition, from the Crane thing in the second pic.

I also have a 78, and my alternator is on the other side.. I think that means mine once had AC..
