Diff seal leak

Post by ga.spyder »

I worked on our Lemons racer this weekend. The car hasnt moved since Sept. race.I crawled under Sat. and found a big puddle of gear dope under the car.It has leaked from the front pinion seal.Do I have to remove the diff cover to change it,or can it be done in place withe the shaft and flange removed? Can it be seated by hand tools,or do I need to get it pressed in? Any advice is appreciated

no need to remove the rear cover. The seal is not pressed, but tapped into place using a seal driver. You're going to need to retorque the pinion nut however

Thanks Mark. This was a new one on me.Odd that we werent leaking noticeably at the track, but after sitting on jack stands for a few months we have lost the fluid. One more thing to add to the list!
