single clamp exhaust

I just bought a 78 with the 4-1 manifold using the single clamp. Yes, i will be going to a better version, but I need to quieten it down while I deal with more pressing issues. How do you fix the leaking around the clamp? Will a layer of gasket material help any? Thanks ...
