Oil leaking from exhaust manifold bolt
Oil leaking from exhaust manifold bolt
I know this has been discussed before, but wanted to confirm. I had the manifold gasket replaced in the spring when I was having some other work done. It was leaking oil from the last bolt closest to firewall. I noticed it has started leaking from there again. I have a feeling they didn't put any sealer on the bolt when re-installing. So, do I need to remove the bolt, add the sealant and re-install? Just tightening will not help...correct?

Remove, add sealant and reinstall. I believe its the top TWO bolts that need to be sealed.
Re: Oil leaking from exhaust manifold bolt
Thanks for confirming that. Second bolt is dry, so I think I'll leave it unless I see leakage from it. The bolt that's leaking is sticking out about an inch not including the nut. Is this normal?Divers wrote:Remove, add sealant and reinstall. I believe its the top TWO bolts that need to be sealed.

I used Teflon tape on mine and seems to work great. I'm not sure what others are using.

Teflon tape? Interesting. How long has it been on, I would think it would have a heat issue. I was wondering what to use as a sealer also. I tried regular locktite and it did not last.

The Teflon has been on a year as of last month and about 20,000 miles. No oil leaks yet.
