I have been touting the reliability of my electronic ignition lately, and no sooner do I do so, it starts acting up. I think. What I have is a Fireball 3000 module. For the past year or so it has been right on, car starts right up, idles in the high range when cold then kicks down automatically to a nice smooth warm idle. As of a few days ago it will not idle high when cold (I have to use the throttle pull), and almost wants to die each time I come to a stop. I have to keep my foot on the pdle to keep it running. Once underway it is smooth and responsive.
Any advice or suggestions as to what may be causing this? I was told a while back that I need a new "idle diaphram" in my carb but not being a carb guy, I really have no idea what that is.
TIA

Re: Low idle
Whoever answered your question with "idle diaphragm" isn't a carb guy either, since there is no such part.SanRafaelFaz wrote:I have been touting the reliability of my electronic ignition lately, and no sooner do I do so, it starts acting up. Diagnose one thing at a time, if you think it is your aftermarket ignition then figure that out first. Then clean your carburetor jets and orifices with carburetor cleaner spray. Then diagnose any remaining problems and report back.

Re: Low idle
Ignition system is not causing that issue, need to fix the carb/FI whatever yoiu have. If you pull out throttle and it idles up, ign OK.
Re: Low idle
Thanks. Actually, last night on my way home from work it was starting to sputter at idle and the exhaust smelled funny. For the hell of it, I revved it up to the redline a couple times and strangely, the idle returned to normal! I'll see what happens today.majicwrench wrote:Ignition system is not causing that issue, need to fix the carb/FI whatever yoiu have. If you pull out throttle and it idles up, ign OK.
Re: Low idle
Have you checked the flap on your AFM? Mine got sticky and the car wouldn't idle and ran rich. Got it working smoothly with a little graphite. Also check aux air valve, if it's opening.
