Oil Bubbles Around Spark Plug

Post by KalamazooJohnny »

Messing around under the hood, I noticed the second spark plug back from the front had oil pooled around it in the well. So I mopped it out with some paper towel and Q tips. I started the car and watched that plug and it slowly bubbles around that spark plug. The plug is tight. I can't see if its seeping from the threads, or where, but bubbles are coming from somewhere, and why is oil coming out?

The oil is probely leaking from the cam cover or oil fill cap. The bubble is maybe the oil boiling.i have been there and that was my problem. Try it with the motor cold and see if it starts out bubbling. The plugs also have a metal washer on them to seat them. Check that.

And make sure you have the right plug in there, too. Most likely the cam covers or oil filler cap is the oiusrce of the oil. Remote chance it is a crack in the head that is leaking air around the plug - but the oil is still coming from the cam covers or oil filler cap.

Just a metal seal on plug, it could certainly leak an insignificant amount of pressure, no worries, just get er tight enough. Has a crush washer, you should get it finger tight then a half turn or so more as washer crushes.
Like said, oil coming from above.
